CASA volunteers are dedicated men and women willing to advocate for the best interests of abused or neglected children. CASA volunteers are given support, guidance, tools, and training from professionals in the field to help them understand and work effectively within the child welfare system. Once a volunteer has completed 30 hours of training, he or she is sworn in as an officer of the court by one of our local judges.
Every year the State of Texas removes thousands of children from their homes because of possible abuse or neglect. The welfare system is an overburdened system. A CASA volunteer on a case affords the judge a comprehensive picture of the best interests of the child.

Qualifications
A CASA Volunteer must:
- Be 21 years of age or older.
- Successfully pass screening and background check requirements.
- Successfully complete initial training provided by the CASA of Val Verde program.
(30 hours of initial training plus 3 hours of courtroom observation & 12 hours of continuing education) - Be able to make a 12-month minimum commitment to a case.
(An average of 10-15 hours per month) - Be able to keep information confidential and work within established program guidelines.
